What to Look for When Choosing a Paving Stone Mold
From machine compatibility to steel quality, what you need to know before requesting a quote so you choose the right mold.

In paving stone production, the mold is one of the pieces of equipment with the greatest impact on product quality and production cost. A well-chosen mold produces stones of the same dimensions and surface quality for months. A poorly chosen one increases both waste and downtime. We recommend clarifying the following points before you place a mold order.
1. Machine and pallet compatibility
The mold is designed to the dimensions of your machine. The following information should always be shared at the quotation stage:
- Machine brand and model
- Pallet size (width × length, mm)
- How the mold mounts to the machine, and the dimensions of your current mold (if any)
If you have an old mold, photos and measurements of it will speed things up considerably.
2. Product type, pattern and stone height
The pattern of the stone you want to produce (e.g. I-shape, interlocking, square, decorative begonit) and its height (e.g. 60, 80, 100 mm) determine the layout of the mold cavities and the number of stones per pallet. If you need a custom pattern, simply send us a technical drawing or a photo of a sample stone.
3. Steel quality and heat treatment
A mold works under the constant abrasive action of concrete and aggregate. That is why the quality of the steel and the hardening method directly affect mold life. IBAR Moldtech molds are made from CK45 quality steel and hardened in heat treatment furnaces.
4. Machining precision
The dimensional accuracy of the mold cavities determines how well the stones fit together and the quality of the finished paving. Molds machined on CNC machines deliver crisp lines and consistent dimensions. A precise fit of the tamper heads in the mold cavities is also critical for surface quality.
5. Welding and assembly quality
The mold is exposed to intense vibration with every cycle. Uniform, sound welded joints allow the mold to hold its form for a long time. Robotic welding technology delivers consistent results in this respect.
